Schlage Accents Hardware
The
roots of the Schlage Lock Company go back to 1920 and an immigrant
from Germany, Walter Schlage, who was already known as an inventor
who was infatuated with locks. One of his patents was for a lock that
turned on the lights when the key was turned to unlock it.
That one was not a commercial hit, but his next lock invention
or a variation of it is used by every lock manufacturer in the US.
This was a lock that could be locked from the inside simply by pushing
a button located at the center of the door knob.
Walter Schlage designed and built the first two Schlage hardware factories
and continued as part of the management and design teams until his
death in 1946.
